We sat on this press release for a couple of days... Re-hashing news on corporate appointments should only be attempted when you've plumbed the depths of boredom. I've darned all my socks so here goes:
HomeAway has appointed two new chiefs (is anybody there NOT a chief?!) both of whom have star studded Silicon Valley pedigrees of unsurpassed brilliance.
First up is Brent Bellm, the new Chief Operating Officer. Brent was formerly CEO of PayPal Europe and his appointment raises some interesting ideas on how HomeAway might bridge the gap between owners and renters with regard to payments. Good move!
His CV sounds great and although (sadly) there's no mention of outside hobbies, like most corporate chiefs he probably does Iron Man competitions and wrestles sharks at weekends.
Next up is Tom Hale, lucky recipient of the newly created chiefdom of Chief Product Officer. Tom comes from Linden Labs; this is the firm who famously make the Second Life virtual world video game. (I admit to having absolutely no idea what this means.) Are HomeAway planning to cut out the hassle of real travel by offering customers virtual vacations? Who knows - it all sounds very impressive though.
There is continued speculation that these hires hint ever more strongly at an IPO for HomeAway in 2011.
Good luck to both gentlemen.
