Owner Chat: Weekly forum highlights

Here's a round-up of some of the web chatter from vacation rental owners that caught our eye last week. If you haven't already participated in an online forum, we strongly recommend it - other owners can be the source of some great advice!

Should HomeAway and their other sites be banned from Google?
An SEO specialist wonders why HomeAway's stable of websites doesn't attract a duplicate content penalty from Google and the other search engines. Interesting thought or just wishful thinking?

Why does AlwaysOnVacation.com keep on receiving complaints?
Ouch - this website receives a deluge of complaints about pushy salesmen and strange Indian accents. Do you agree this firm are rubbish... or is this thread all hot air?

Two seriously dissatisfied bookings and now I'm worried...
An owner has a torrid time with two sets of guests leaving early. He's made some mistakes with his marketing but fellow owners offer a wealth of good advice to turn things around. (Good effort - forums at their best!)

A conundrum with respect to Owners Direct - bookings down
We only picked this because it's a perennial discussion on which rental websites are working - and which aren't. It is an understandable dilemma and owners do deserve better information; unfortunately this sort of anecdotal chatter on which rentals website delivers is about as useful as a chocolate teapot... too subjective, too few hard figures - but what's the alternative?

Are you happy about uncontrolled guests reviews?
This was a dead thread until we posted a comment about it - now it's alive with chatter on the ups and downs of guest reviews. One poster seems determined to find our account name on LayMyHat (is she about to issue a fatwa or just got too much time on her hands?) Some interesting views on guest reviews though - worth a read and a contribution.
