TripAdvisor devises world's dullest rentals poll, thousands vote

August is upon us and the steady drip of interesting vacation rentals news is unusually dry. This may explain why TripAdvisor's bored web team may have tweeted this:
"Have you ever stayed in a vacation rental home? TripAdvisor poll of 2,500: Yes 58%; No 42%."
Being a quiet period we've been forced to give this unusually useless poll result more thought than we'd like. Here's a couple of initial ideas:
- 2,500 people visited the new TripAdvisor vacation rentals section and said they've used rentals before. Hmm... people who like vacation rentals visiting a vacation rentals page. Is the marketing guy angling for a raise? Great profiling, dude - you sure know your audience.
- 58% of people using the world's busiest hotel review site (still their main business?) actually prefer vacation rentals. This doesn't look quite so good for the company's investors - run for the hills boys!
- The executives all took a vacation leaving the office intern in charge who devised a useless poll and published it so he could show off to his mom.
